I get the idea behind the Edmund Burke quote (technically a version of John Stuart Mill's quote from 1867), but I find that when it's used on me, it's usually to get me to care about someone else's cause or perspective. And being told that something is suddenly my fault through blissful ignorance doesn't exactly motivate me to start caring.
