The verb form of "resilience" is "resile", which surprisingly has two opposite meanings. It can mean to either bounce back or to abandon an original position - no prizes for guessing which definition gets pushed by schools and organisations. Personally, I've found the rebuttal of "nobody will judge you for things out of your control" to be one of the dumbest things you could tell a kid.
