Idioms and phrases that we had to memorise for writing essays in school make a lot more sense when you think of them as memes. They're basically the same thing: shortened clauses referring to events that haven't actually happened to you, aren't to be taken literally more often than not, and are incomprehensible outside an exclusive circle of knowledge.
