Captain Clay was really the start of it all. When I developed the idea of a Planet-sized University, he was the first character I devised, seeing the series as a set of short, prose stories featuring a grizzled space navy veteran. As the University idea developed, he got pushed to one side, but I'm pleased to see him back and I hope you are too, only for the first time!
