Woof, this is a long one! Also, rapid fire points: Many servants lived on the property of their employers, and while some had families, most females left service if they were married or had children. Kids could be employed as servants, hall boys and scullery maids could be as young as 12! Lastly, servants were lucky if they got 1 full day off per week, although standard was one half day! Whew!
