My 1st year students in Junior High (7th grade) like English but sometimes they try to write complicated things they haven't learned (which is great but when they have to present to class they struggle as a result). My 3rd years (9th grade) had the life sucked out of them. Of course some students struggle with English so it's fine if they write simple sentences...but those lazy ones.....
