In 19th-century Batavia (Nederlandsch-Indie), a young woman, Marina, engaged to a childhood friend, finds herself torn between duty and desire when she falls in love with a compassionate Dutch soldier, Gerrit, who brings her red roses and shows her what it means to be truly loved. Soon their promised often meetings created a love affair between them, as if there's two destined roses in two different worlds tied by a red destined string. But 'love' isn't always so kind in some stories.
