As a kid I skated on frozen rivers and ponds. I was always careful on hearing the cracking sounds, or seeing dark spots in the ice. I’d heard stories of people falling through the ice and would practice in my head thinking about how to get out and how much time before the hypothermia would take me. I never fell in though. All that mental preparation for nothing.
