The Desert Peach doesn't appear in this story, but his influence does. At a Canadian bookshow, a German girl walked up to my table, tapped the cover picture of Miki, and said, "That is my mother." She meant her mom had gone through what Miki did. A lot of women during WWII did. Americans don't know this because we weren't in WWII - we just sent troops overseas. Another 2-parter.
