The Large Hadron Collider, located deep underneath the Alps, is made of superconducting magnets chilled to ‑271.3°C. It is a ring 27 kilometres in circumference and works by smashing tiny particles together to allow scientists to observe them and see what’s inside. Researchers at CERN fired up the Large Hadron Collider for the third time on July 5, 2022. It is projected to run for four years.
