I actually wrote this one way before seeing Kong vs. Godzilla. Truth. The Hollow Earth conspiracy theory is 100% an actual thing that actual occult whack jobs believed around the turn of the last century. The same sort of séance-attending, Atlantis-hunting weirdos who gave us Edgar Cayce and Madame Blavatsky [worth a Google!] were all about it.
