Let me provide some context. Simeon is attracted to men but he has been concealing that aspect of himself, struggling internally with the fear of "becoming like dad" and a disappointment to his mother. Gay husband, now gay son? Of course, this isn't a good reason to hide that part of himself but Simeon was deeply impacted by what happened in his childhood and hasn't truly healed from it.
