One of my writing goals is to always make it feel like all of the characters, be they "sidekicks" or "villains" are the heroes of their own story... and they all have deep personal lives, problems, drama and backstories to unveil. I like writing Beanie, and he's has some fun stuff coming up, beyond the traditional heroes best friend role.
