In 168 BC Antiochus IV was blocked from invading Egypt by a Roman Ambassador named Popillius who delivered him a message from the Senate ordering Antiochus to withdraw his armies or Rome would have joined the war against him. When he said he needed time to consult his advisers, Popillius drew a circle around the king and ordered him to give a response. Antiochus then withdrew his army from Egypt.
