Argos is Odysseus' faithful dog. When Odysseus returns to Ithaca, his homeland, he disguises himself as a beggar, and on his way to his home, sees Argos. Argos is weak and old, but still recognizes his master. As Odysseus passes by, he sheds a tear but cannot greet Argos for fear of giving himself away. As soon as Odysseus leaves, Argos dies. Their simple relationship meant a sincere reunion.
