Those are manuka flowers, which are native to New Zealand and can blossom anytime between September to February. Let’s just say, for the sake of Valentines Day, these were some late bloomers. While it’s considered a weed by some, manuka is vital to NZ’s ecosystem and helps restore damaged habitats during the early stages of succession. It’s also used to make tea and honey!
