The year is 2223, centuries after the success of the Burr Conspiracy and the rise of a religion that has rediscovered magic. An oppressive organization of mages, spell casters that worship the Divine Architect, hold political power in what was once the United States and use it to collect sacrifices to fuel their arcane powers. One young man, James Pandragon, wishes to join the ranks of the mages despite being unable to cast spells. Normally he would be doomed to fail, but James is a soul weaver.
