In response to the clamor demanding to know, are the aliens animals or plants? I can only answer: no. "Plant" vs. "Animal" are earthly categories, with specific meaning about cellular biology. Alien biology aligns with neither category. Consider the question of cell walls: some alien cells have them, some do not. They have vacuoles, but not chloroplasts. Go figure.
