Episode 6 is up! Woohoo. A few explanations. Those black patches on Arai's body are made that way to be easily removable by engineers when he needs upgrades. Synthoid skin (and all their parts) are expensive, that's why they aren't that many made. Next episode we get to know Xuna a bit better. I originally wanted to start with her past, but decided on this timeline instead. Enjoy!
