One time we went for a walk on the frozen lake. It was a misty day and everything felt very close and peaceful and far-off and mysterious all at once. The trees on the shore behind us melted out of sight and we walked across the ice surrounded in whiteness until we saw an island, a gray shadow in the mist, and then we knew where we were again.
