Creator's note Gearoid Molloy

The first portable metal detectors weren't sold commercially until the 1930s. The people who used them couldn't be called detectors because that's what the machine was called, and they couldn't be called detectives because the police were already using that word, so they became known as detectorists. This is what's called a neologism, which means a word for a new idea.
