As a kid, I thought that Germanic tribes = bad and Romans = good. But of course things were a lot of more nuanced than that, so let's take a look at some of these 'barbaric tribes'. Were these Germanic people really these savage raiders that Romans thought they were? Or were they a displaced and desperate people, used and abused by Roman politicians? Or a bit of both?
