Kaye lives 1.5 light-years away from earth in the neighboring solar system. Aster is her “link,” her penpal from earth. They watch each other grow up, separated by time and space, with each message taking 17 months to travel the gap between planets. Despite this barrier, they form a bond and develop an escape in one another. But war breaks out on earth, and Kaye is powerless to do anything but watch.
