Peter, the youngest prince of the Kingdom of Beloth, during one of his frequent escapes from the palace grounds, wanders a little too deep in the forest. He happens to stumble upon an area he had not yet explored and finds young Aerin playing in a lake. This was his first encounter with an elf, as they were mistreated and treated as lower class citizens, so they tended to keep their distance from humans.
