Many years ago, before the construction of places for spirits to rest, everyone could only see in black and white. That was before animals understood that souls not only gave them power, but also the power to see color. As these souls were gathered and taken, the beholder would ascend through unknown ranks, infuriating the gods, who struck them down and created two places with otherworldly entities to protect the dead as they rested - The Void and The Star.
