Maisa, an insecure and unprepared boy, is forced to take the place of Chain, the legendary Provider of Lacrimal and his adoptive father, who died under suspicious circumstances. While struggling to survive against lethal cursed creatures, anomalous beings, and companions who see him as a burden, Maisa discovers that Chain’s death is tied to a conspiracy that marks him as the next target and to the imminent awakening of something capable of wiping out all existence.
