Different universes have their own individual characters, and so individual timelines. These differ because of different decisions that are made that affect the universes story. This gap between this difference is called the stream of time. Now, what if I told you that this time could be collected, like water from a well? What do you think would happen if that well broke, spilling its contents across existence as we know it?
