Rishima saw Nov for the first time and thought of him as a naive and helpless (ehem, hopeless) little brother with the survival instinct of a wet paper bag. Taara, seemed unusually interested in the boy so they had to help him from getting killed. Down the road, I see Novelty looking up to Rishima as a cool big brother-figure. But tbh, Nov becomes more of a best friend Rishima.
