Evie is the first female lieutenant in the Northern Army. She was sent on a mission to eradicate all magical nonhuman life from the continent. After an operation goes awry, Evie is taken in by Sil, the healer of Guang Village. There, she meets many magical nonhuman folk, confronts her grief, and begins to question many long-held beliefs she held of nonhuman kind.
