Kirin, a naïve acolyte, has begun experiencing nightmares, something supposedly impossible for women born under a high house of orme. Fearing the clergy's judgment, she withdraws, only to be called to meet the holy prophetess, who communes with their departed goddess through her dreams. But Kirin soon discovers that nightmares are spreading, and the world theocracy is thrown into chaos as the long dead Dread God reemerges from the shadows to free his master and claim a royal bride.
