Abandoned after her parents passing, Runa lives in Nuro, a city caught in the crossfire of a war between rebels and the government. After the New Order war against their corrupted government, the Onyx Prince goes missing, also known as the son of the Sullied. Runa flees to the Old Quarter, after having contracted the disease Desdemon, to avoid the watchful eyes of CODA. The New Order's demand for powerful second forms grow quietly, and tension is rising.
