A northern Italian mercenary during the 1460s who sails with a Portuguese ship only to barely survive a shipwreck off the coast of Ryukyu, be blown of course and left stranded on a mysterious chain of islands to the North. He becomes embroiled in the politics,conflict and intrigue of a country at war with itself.
