Darren, a canine animal-kind, has been training to be a dragon rider all his life. All of this work concludes in what the school calls "Hatching Day", where dragons and riders are finally paired. However, when it's his turn, the remaining eggs fail to hatch for him... He is now faced with returning to normal "mundane" work in the town, never to be given the chance again, when fate and a stray bread delivery have other plans for him.
