Just after the Second World War, the life of local mortician Henri Clerval couldn’t be worse. In debt to the mafia, her desperation is equally met with an immigrant mother, Vittoria Fabricius. A woman with a talent in science and a daughter in need of experimental surgery to live, Henri is paid to harvest the corpses of the morgue as donors to the child, only to realize Vittoria never specified her daughter was already dead. Full of guilt, Henri is tangled in a family she unwittingly created.
