Tracy Chan and her mom, Lauren, have just moved to a new city after a difficult divorce between Tracy's parents. Lauren has to go away for the weekend for business. Not wanting to leave Tracy alone, Lauren asks Gale, her best friend since high school, to watch Tracy. After her father, Tracy doesn't trust Gale. Unfazed by Tracy's coldness, Gale tries to spend the entire weekend trying to show Tracy what a father should be and slowly earns her trust and respect.
