All spirits must follow one ultimate law to prevent the dormant curse from activating itself: never forge a strong connection or bond with a human. If this law is ever broken by a spirit, the punishment is either to execute the human or the spirit, in order to neutralize and return the curse to its dormant state. Shina, a spirit and heir to the god of war, however, broke this law by falling in love with a human.
