Arrietty was a normal singer with a band called 'Lady', until she was struck by lightning which gave her the powers to sing people's fortunes. She has the scars… and the talent to show for it, however Arrietty does not hide her scars as she is proud of them and sees her power as a gift. She can only tell people's fortunes by singing which is why her stage name is "Lady Luck".
