The grass is greener on the other side - and thus, the air is fresher. The cities are ruled by the rich and the poor tossed to the outskirts, doing hard and dangerous labor in toxic and polluted environments where new diseases arise. Diseases and toxicity that took away Aiana and Mila's parents before Mila was even four, leaving a 12-year-old Aiana to care for her with little inheritance.
