Hugo starts to feel as if he's being watched, as if there is something lurking just out of sight, always just out of reach, always just out of his comprehension. The more he tries to make sense of what's happening, the more unsettling things become, the more he starts to question his own reality. He begins to feel vulnerable and exposed, as if something or someone is playing with him, teasing him, driving him slowly but surely towards the brink of madness.
