Ace is a terrible necromancer—so terrible that he resurrects the wrong person. Instead of his lost lover, a famed mage now stands before him, Cerium, very much alive and very much confused. Worse, resurrection is illegal, and Ace’s mistake has drawn attention. To survive, they strike a deal: Cerium will teach Ace proper necromancy in exchange for help in uncovering how they died. But as they unravel the past, Ace begins to wonder—was he ever meant to bring Mallory back at all?
