The Cats are superhuman blue bloods possessing unnatural strength. Their longevity is five times over the human lifespan, yet they suffer from one flaw: their fecundity rate is one in a thousand. A selection of spouses occurs biannually, with hopefuls from every walk of life vying for a chance to be part of the family. Ava is compelled to participate to save twins Margo and Morgan who are held by Hugo of House Emiel, the Black Cats. Old wounds open as Ava competes to become a Cat's lover.
