Not your Nonna’s spaghetti. Nuclear pasta is the name astrophysicists give to the ultra-dense matter found inside neutron stars—the collapsed hearts of giant suns. At those crushing pressures, protons and neutrons get squeezed into bizarre shapes scientists nicknamed after pasta: spaghetti, lasagna, gnocchi. It’s literally the strongest material in the universe. So when I dreamed up Captain Nuclear Pasta, it made sense that he’d be forged from the same strange stuff.
