Prof. Silas Thorne (27) is appointed to 800-year-old Blackthorn University. His job: manage the North Wing Library. Rule: Never enter after 11 PM. On day one he meets Elara Vance (23), who knows the cost of breaking the rule. Her friend Liora vanished there, leaving a note: "He is sleeping. Don't touch his egg." At midnight, they enter. Silas touches the glowing egg. It cracks. An eye opens in the dark.
