After Amberlin fails to stop the Blight from devastating Rottestadt, she is left with a cursed gift in place of her arm and an unwavering resolve to save her city. On her journey, she finds a boy named Ciron, and has to protect him at all costs for he is the key in saving humanity. For Ciron, he is on his own quest to find the cure against the Blight.
