The protagonist of Tidekinds heart piece is Kael, a shapeshifting maritime lifeform. Their struggle begins, when living in the ocean becomes unbearable. Which each shift visiting land to try figuring out about what is destroying the ocean they live in, they feel it harder to switch between body forms. Soon their loved ones who refuse leaving the ocean fell sick and Kael is urged to keep going until they’re stuck in their human body. Now they’re pressed into gender roles as being red as female and facing identity crises and dysphoria. Soon they understand: the only way back is by somehow convincing a world that refuses to listen.
